Setting – Honey Bee Inn

In the Honey Bee Inn, Cloud has yet another vision of himself, saying; “it wont go away” and “you cant change it if you do nothing about it”.

Cloud’s HP/MP is restored as he wakes up to a man massaging him. Cloud shrugs as if to say ‘’hey, sex is sex’’. This is most likely to be a joke by Squaresoft. I don’t think they were being serious about this.

Setting – Don Corneos Mansion

Don Cerneo says *Heidegger of ShinRa told him to spy on Barret.

*Heidegger is the Head of Public Safety Maintenance.

Don Cornero also says that ShinRa are trying to crush AVALANCE and infiltrate their hideout. ShinRa plan to literally CRUSH AVALANCE by breaking the support plate above them. The party which consists of Cloud, Aeris and Tifa rush back to Sector 7 Slums to try and stop ShinRa.

FFVII - PSone

Setting – Sector 5 Slum

Just after Cloud meets Aeris in the church, Aeris comments on Clouds eye. She says they have a glow to them and guessed he was in SOLDIER. Cloud asks how she knows he was in SOLDIER. Aeris says ‘It Doesn’t matter’ and carries on.

This is the earliest reference to Zack.

Setting - Aeris’s House

Elmyra (Aeris’ Mum) Says to Aeris ‘’You mean you were followed again?’’. Aeris clearly got followed alot.

Cloud is asleep in Aeris house when he has visions and dreams of his past. (His mum?) Is shown saying he should get a girlfriend and settle down. Cloud replies saying he is ‘not interested’.

Setting – Slums (IMPORTANT)

When Aeris sits down with Cloud, she asks what rank he was in SOLDIER. Cloud says ‘first class’.

“Like him...”,Aeris replies.

“Like Who?”, Cloud asks.

“My First boyfriend”, Aeris answers.

“you were serious?” – Cloud

“No but i liked him for a while” –Aeris

“ I probably knew him, what was his name” – Cloud

“It really doesn’t matter” – Aeris

This is interrupted by a Chocobo toeing a cart parading through the slums.

This is clearly a reference to Zack. They’re talking about him in the past tense which implies he is already dead by this point.

Zack – More Important Than Cloud?

I am playing through Final Fantasy VII for what seems like the billionth time and i am going to write down and note important things i notice. Crisis Core is out for the PSP and as far as Square-Enix are concerned, the story has been told full-circle. That does not mean to say there will be any more FFVII games, but they just think they have told the full story.

Firstly, going through FFVII back in 1997, i didn’t really understand the vast majority of what was going on, even know, 11 years later, the plot is so deep i don’t know if you can ever store the full plot inside your head. I certainly didn’t really see Zack as what i see him as now.

Zack is mentioned in FFVII but you never really comprehend the significance of this mysterious character. As i go through the game, i am going to note down every reference to Zack in the original FFVII.

Also, i plan to watch Advent Children AGAIN, play Crisis Core AGAIN and get everything i can. At the end of this, i should have the ultimate plot noted down between the 3 characters.

I am going to pretend you’ve never played FFVII before and know nothing about it. So that way, if anyone really hasn’t played it, they wont feel too lost.

Why Are You Doing This?

I’m glad you ask. The reason is simply for my own understanding of the game, everyone elses understanding and finally, to see how well Square-Enix have told the story of Zack in various FFVII media, mainly FFVII, Advent Children & Crisis Core.

I do believe this will benefit myself and others. So? Let the journey begin. I am going to play FFVII from beginning to end writing down the most important things, mostly to do with Zack.
